Mick married at a young age to Richard “Dick” Melton on August 17, 1957. Mick was a stay at home mom until her youngest child was in Junior High School, and then she became a part time lunch lady at Rogers, Hoglan and Woodbury Elementary Schools until she got her full time job at the Marshalltown High School, which she loved. She loved serving the students and recalled kids going through the line and singing, “Mickey, Mickey, your so fine.” Everybody just loved her! She was on a bowling league for years. In her earlier years, she and dad would take the back roads and drink a few beers on their way to Shady Hills Campground, which they camped there for years. She also enjoyed going to Glen’s Tap, Kent’s and eventually Vaughn’s Pub. Mick became a huge Iowa State basketball fan! She loved everything about ISU and “The Mayor” Fred Hoiberg. She was an avid collector of giraffes. Above everything, Mick worshiped her momma, husband and kids. Left to cherish her memory is her children: Dane Melton, Roxane Hazen and Kim (Jason) Stalzer and grandson, Bradford Gale Hazen. Mick is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; two babies in infancy, Richard Tracy and Stacy Sean; and her mother Cleora.
