Marilyn Norris

November 24, 1926 — September 15, 2021

Marilyn J. Norris, 94, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, and of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of September 15, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Marilyn will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Marilyn’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Marilyn Stamper was born November 24, 1926 to William and Irene (Smith) Stamper in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Hilliard, Ohio where she attended school. Marilyn graduated from West High School in 1943 with honors. On December 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Carl M. Norris in Columbus, Ohio. Together they began their own family raising four children together. For many years, Marilyn worked for Suburban Moto-Freight as the executive secretary. She later took a job for Nursing Center Services where she was their secretary and eventually retired from. Marilyn took an active role in participating for the PTA as well as the music and athletic booster clubs in Hilliard while her children attended school. In her free time, she enjoyed reading the newspaper and working through the puzzles with a coffee and honey bun in hand, she loved going to her children and grandchildren’s activities, cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds as well as making numerous kinds of Christmas cookies and fudge for the holidays. She will be missed at the holiday events playing Yuker. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Pat (Bob) Groves, Lana Wirth, Brian (Edna) Norris; her grandchildren, Tammy, Rob, Briana, Tracy, Carl, Jerry, Bret, and Michael; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her sister Marcia Leming; and numerous extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl; her parents William and Irene Stamper; her son, Bradley Norris; her grandson Brent Norris; and brother Wayne Stamper.
