Marilyn May Patterson

Marilyn (Foley) Patterson, 91, formerly of Gilman, passed away at the Hawkeye Care Center surrounded by her loving family on August 30, 2016. Funeral services will be Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with a public visitation held an hour before the service starting at 10:00. Marilyn May Foley was born on May 15, 1925 in Montour, Iowa. She received her education from the Montour school system and graduated with the Class of 1943. She was married to Ward Patterson on August 28, 1944. The two made their lives together on the familys Century Farm in rural Gilman. Marilyn enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, knitting, crocheting, and the occasional cross stich pattern. She also spent many hours painting china. When she had some free time Marilyn could be found out at the local golf courses working on her game. Marilyn was a very active member in the Gilman Methodist Church and the Womens Auxiliary, and many other clubs including GFWC where she held many offices. Left to cherish Marilyns memory are her son, Paul Patterson, of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Melissa (Justin) Curtis of Gilman, Tyler Shipley of Altoona, Hollie (Joe) Rodriguez of St. Paul, MN, Erin (Brandon) Hankins of Davenport, and Cory (Sarah) Dostal of Traer; great-grandchildren: Grant, Eli, Brock, Libby, Chandler, Carson, Cecelia, Titus, and Lincoln Curtis of Gilman; Jordan, Jayden, and Jocelyn Dostal of Traer; Jordan and Joel Rodriguez of St. Paul, MN; and Dylan, Logan, Olivia, and Jalayna Shipley of New Sharon; and brother, John (JoAnn) Foley of Montour and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ward; sister, Christine Hill; and son, Mike Patterson.
