Marilyn Sanderson

Marilyn Sanderson, longtime Albion resident has passed away at age 91 on September 12, 2026 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Per Marilyn's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 19, 2026 beginning at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Marilyn's name may be made to Iowa River Hospice Home or the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Marilyn Joanna Forbes was born on December 9, 1934 at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. She was the first of 3 children born to Maurice & Pearl (Roskamp) Forbes. Marilyn graduated from Albion High School.

While Marilyn was working as a telephone operator in Albion, she went on a date, to the drive-in movie, with Mike (Red) Sanderson and the rest was history. They were united in marriage on March 24,1956 at the Bethel Grove Parsonage. The couple resided in Marshall County until 1963 when Albion became their forever home. Marilyn was the proud mother of Micheal Faron, Julie, Bonnie & Anita. She stayed busy with the kids activities-Cub Scout leader, Brownie leader, Sunday School and PTA groups. She continued her education at Marshalltown Community College where she obtained her nursing degrees. She worked at Mercy Hospital (St. Thomas) in Marshalltown and also spent many years as an LPN at the Iowa Veterans Home until her retirement. In her free time Marilyn enjoyed sewing and machine embroidery projects, learning new sewing techniques at the Marshalltown Sewing Center as well as knitting with the group at the Albion Library. For years she was an avid member of the water exercise group at the Marshalltown Y.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years. Mike (Red) Sanderson; Three children, Julie Kelsey, Bonnie (Daniel) Knuckey, and Anita (William) Sanderson; 4 grandchildren; Erin Sanderson, Micheal Sanderson, Dannie Knuckey and Benjaman Knuckey; nine great-grandchildren, Zachary Sanderson, David Sanderson, Dylan Mask, Caitlyn Sherlock, Kevin Sherlock, Cody Sherlock, Hailey Mask, Hayden Mask, and Drew Mask. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In eternal life she is reunited with her son Micheal Faron Sanderson, her parents Maurice & Pearl Forbes, her sister Frances (Harrison) Smith, and her brother Paul Forbes.
