Mario Ortega, 14, of Marshalltown, died Friday, September 14, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. A celebration of Marios life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow services. Memorial contributions may be directed in Marios name to Great Western Bank.Mario was born April 10, 1998, in San Diego, California, the son of Mario Antonio and Ronda Renee (Sheriff) Lovan. Their family lived in San Diego for a short time before moving to Des Moines, Iowa, and then Marshalltown when Mario was eight years old. Mario was currently a freshman at Marshalltown High School and had previously attended the Miller Jr. High, Lenihan and Rogers Elementary Schools. He was all boy and loved athletics, especially football and wrestling. Mario once scored six touchdowns in a single game of football and during his wrestling career, won ten out of twelve wrestling matches. He also had a love for music, dancing and singing and especially enjoyed R&B and Hip-Hop music. When Mario had time, he also loved to go fishing at Sand Lake, Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock. Mario was full of life, loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all those who had the opportunity to share in his precious time here with us. Mario is survived by his mother Ronda Lovan of Marshalltown, his father Mario Ortega of Morelia, Michocan, Mexico, his brothers: Skylee (Jamee) Chal of Des Moines and Savonny (Starr) Chal of Des Moines, his sisters: Samiy Plascencia of Nevada, Serena (Miguel) Reyes of Grimes and Zeferi Ortega of Marshalltown, his nieces: Saphira, Xiylana, Miranda, Armani, Aya and Mileena and his nephew Ryu, his grandmothers: Brenda Sanchez of Marshalltown and Victoria Ortega of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Mario was preceded in death by his brother Sachary Chal and his grandfather Ron Sheriff.
