Marisue was born on April 17, 1971, to Matthew and Helene Edel. She was #10, joining three sisters and six brothers. Matt and Helene welcomed this special Down Syndrome child with love supported by their strong Catholic faith. It was God’s plan for her to play a major role in the Matt Edel family. Marisue was treated in the same manner as everyone else. As she grew older, she thrived with the acceptance and love she received from family and friends and rose in ranks from #10 to #1. Little did we all know it would be Marisue who would show us the joy of living our life in God’s plan. After Matt’s passing in 1993, Helene and Marisue, a dynamic duo, bravely continued on life’s path, living in harmony. St Henry’s parish was a big part of their lives.

Helene and Marisue were actively involved with the ever growing family; helping out and making out of state visits where family landed. Marisue took pride in her role as an aunt and Godmother, with her most recent role as “GREAT” Aunt to Brielle and Clara Whaley and James Edel. Many thrilling moments and joyful days were spent attending and supporting the nephew/niece’s sporting events, especially Bobcat football, baseball, wrestling, soccer, and volleyball. Marisue loved living in Marshalltown and engaging in community events. After Helene’s passing in 2018, Marisue made a smooth transition to living with one of her favorites, brother-in-law Terry, and sister Sharon along with their family.

Marisue was fortunate to attend Pleasant Hill, a school designed for children mentally and physically challenged. She graduated from Pleasant Hill in 1992. She was integrated into various job opportunities through school and became an employee of Mid-Iowa Workshop (MIW) from 1992 to 2022. Marisue gained many good friends through activities provided by CIRSI and ARC, participating in Special Olympics at all levels including competing in the 1987 International Special Olympics in South Bend, Indiana. This summer she joined the REM Adult Day Program after her retirement from MIW in May.
It is fair to say Marisue got her mischievous ways, quick wit, and teasing from her Dad. Anyone who knew Marisue loved her. She knew how to get a laugh with something she would say or do, her dance moves, and by entertaining the crowd by playing guitar or harmonica. She was a passionate Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to have friends and family join her for popcorn, diet Mountain Dew and to watch a game.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, sisters and their spouses: Jeanne (Steve), Greg (Jenny), Anne, Joe (Leisa), Sharon, Chuck (Susan), Doug, and Ken (Sara), nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephew. Extended family members: Uncles, Aunts, (especially Aunt Jeanette Loney), and numerous cousins. Marisue had a large community of friends, including her very special friend, Todd Palo.

In eternal life, she will be reunited with her parents, brother Jim, brother-in-law Curt, nephew Connor, grandparents, Godfather Keith Loney, and several family members.
Lovingly written by the family of Marisue
