Marjorie Irene Elliott Abood, 94, passed away of natural causes, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. A Memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Marjorie and her family. Phone 641-844-1234. Born on January 22, 1918, in rural Marshall County, she was the daughter of Bash and Myrtle (Hurdle) Elliott. Marjorie graduated from Green Mountain Schools with the class of 1936, and went on to ISU and UNI, receiving her BA in Physical Education and her Masters degree from the University of Iowa. While teaching at Kearny State College in Kearny, Nebraska, she met At the end of a diving board in the college pool her future husband Philip G. Abood. They were married in Green Mountain June 17, 1950. After living in Phoenix, Arizona and having a son, Philip Bash in 1953, they moved back to Marshalltown in 1955. Their daughter Nancy Jo Rose was born in 1957. Marjorie was very active in the community, sitting on numerous boards including Iowa River Hospice, Brenton Bank and the Marshalltown School Board. She instructed swimming for a number of years at the YM-YWCA. She was a member of community service groups including PEO Chapter LT, Theta Chi, S.C.I and TTT. Her love of animals, especially horses, was passed on to her granddaughter Sarah Rose. Marge was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune player and enjoyed anything sports. She supported the Iowa Hawkeyes thick or thin and come prepared to play a serious game of bridge- no weak players for that! She liked stars and could be counted on to wake you up in the middle of the night to share something going on in the sky. She loved coffee with a dash of cinnamon and being bra-less and barefoot. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Bash and Myrtle, her brother Russell, and her husband Philip. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Phil (Dena) and daughter, Nan (Kim Kincaid) all of Durango, Colorado, granddaughter, Sarah (Justin) Weber, and great grandchildren, Kyler and Kinlee Weber all of Aztec, New Mexico.
