Marjorie Goodman

July 12, 1942 — February 9, 2025

Marjorie Gene Rohenkohl Goodman, age 82, of State Center passed away on February 9, 2025, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

She was born to Emerson “Bones” Rohenkohl and Inez Lenz Rohenkohl in Dexter, Iowa, on July 12, 1942. She was a member of the Saint Mary’s Catholic High School Class of 1960 in Marshalltown. She was then employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator upon her graduation.

She married Darrell Edward Goodman on May 2, 1964, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Marg was a homemaker following her marriage. She enjoyed caring for her family and supporting the family’s farm. Her hobbies included gardening, canning and playing cards (lots and lots of cards). She was a skilled seamstress who loved to make crafts and sell them at craft fairs in Des Moines, Newton, Tama, Nevada and Marshalltown. Marg belonged to the Jaycees and the Tally-Ho Card Club.

She shared her catholic faith with others by teaching CCD at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as well as being a eucharistic minister for many years.

Marg most enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Visits from her four grandsons made for a noisy house when they all came to see her, but she cherished her time with her family.

Those surviving are her husband Darrell of State Center, daughter Melissa Goodman of West Des Moines and Matthew (Dawn) Goodman of Rhodes. Four grandsons also survive: Wyatt Nelsen, Carter Nelsen, Dawson Goodman and Drake Goodman as well as her brother Dave (Sally) Rohenkohl of Titusville, Florida.

Waiting to greet her in heaven are her beloved daughter, Deborah who passed away recently, her parents Emerson and Inez Rohenkohl, her in-laws Urban and Alice Goodman and sisters-in-law, Karen Weiny and Lola Dreessen as well as many friends.

Funeral services are planned for Thursday, February 13, 2025, beginning at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in State Center where she was a member. Visitation is planned for one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Marshall Athletic Booster Club or the State Center Fire Department.
