Mark Andrew Boldt was born on July 13, 1972 in Iowa City, the first child of Gary and Suzanne (McKibben) Boldt. He attended North Tama School, graduating with the class of 1990. During his youth, he was involved in 4-H and the county fair exhibiting poultry, which he won several trophies for; and swine, as well as non-livestock projects. Mark served on the 4-H County Council and was chosen to attend a citizen trip to Washington, D.C. In school, he participated in band and was the “star” triangle player as well as chorus and swing choir. Mark played baseball and football. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Traer, where he was confirmed and active in the youth group and choir. At age sixteen, Mark went to work for Fareway in Toledo as a part time carry-out. After graduation, he transferred to the meat department and joined the management program. After several moves, he became a meat manager with his last store being Dubuque. Mark was currently employed by Smithfield Foods as the supervisor in distribution for the state of Iowa. On February 14, 1998, Mark was united in marriage to Kim Fagerlind at St. Luke’s in Traer. They later divorced. To this marriage was born Daddy’s “Little Lady” McKenna Shae Boldt. She definitely made him the happiest when he was with her, starting as a loving dance dad when she was three until present, watching her grow into the beautiful person she is today- her high school graduation, college graduation, engagement, and her first teaching job. Several years ago, Mark met a very special person; Rose McKim, and they became a devoted couple and have been constant companions. They loved to travel and have been on several trips together. Mark loved to travel and visited many countries as well as all over the U.S. He always rooted for the Steelers, but most of all he was the loving family man and his family was his world! Mark will be missed beyond comprehension by his daughter McKenna (fiancée Tyler Ward) of Des Moines; his companion, Rose McKim of Ankeny and her three children: Sheyenne, Jaylynn, and Hunter as well as Rose’s grandsons. Mark is also survived by a step-son, Austin Boyd; his mother Suzanne of Gladbrook; his brother David “Spanky” (Mandy) and two very special nephews: Clayton and Lane Boldt of Traer and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mark is preceded in death by his father, Gary on January 17, 2020; sister, Amy on May 8, 2013; his grandpa and grandma Boldt; grandma and grandpa McKibben, great grandpa and grandma Wilcox and his aunts, uncles and Rose’s mother in 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Mark was always a kind and generous person that would help anyone, but felt it needed to be a hand to help up and not a hand out.
