Mark David (Swartz) Hanzelka, 62, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, May 31, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Gregg Davison officiating. He was born On December 18, 1948, in Marshalltown at the Deaconess Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was currently a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Mark graduated from the LeGrand High School in 1966 and later attended Drake University.Mr. Hanzelka was self-employed most of his adult life. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed traveling and reading- especially documentaries, medical journals and history. He was continually researching and learning. Marks survivors are his daughter Dina Marie, grandsons Derek and James Baier, great-grandson Joshua Hayden all of Des Moines, parents Val and Donna Hanzelka of Marshalltown, sister Valarie Jean (Godfrey) Sherriff of Austin, TX., half-sister Cindy (Jerry) Kutzner, half-brother Jeff Swartz also half-nieces and nephew. Preceding him in death were his biological father Denny Ray Swartz, biological grandparents J.D. Mick and Marie Swartz, grandparents Ole and Clara Hage and Frank and Mary Hanzelka.
