Mark Shipley

June 4, 1972 — May 4, 2024

Mark Alan Shipley, age 51, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024. Mark was born on June 4, 1972 to Jim and Karen (Sanders) Shipley. He was the youngest of eight kids. Mark always said “Hi. I’m Mark, the biggest asshole you’ll ever meet.” He grew up in the Green Mountain area and then in Marshalltown. Mark graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1991.

Mark spent many years in the construction field working with Chris Kenner and Star Homes and then with one of his lifelong friends Shawn Hoskins and Hoskins Construction. Mark could build just about anything and took great pride in the work he did. Mark spent the last ten years working at Scharnwebers while obtaining his plumbers license. Mark again took pride in those accomplishments at his age and not liking the use of computers and technology at all. I’m pretty sure if it wasn’t for his coworker and “son from another mother” Adam the he would have thrown in the towel and not completed his “school time” in the garage.

Mark was united in marriage to Kim (Fry) on November 23, 2005. They lovingly referred to their six children together as “yours, mine and ours.”Mark LOVED his family with every breath he took. His family was the most important part of his life. He was the fixer if it’s broken, the best rib smoker, the one who wound the grandkids up when it was time for bed or to go home. Mark loved to crank the tunes and have a cold beer or two in his garage. “My door is always open” is what he said to everyone. Mark loved to go hunting. He would sit for hours in the tree stand and not shoot a single thing, but this was his happy place. He taught Kiera to hunt with him and he often said “she’s a better shot than her old man.” Mark loved to “gravel travel,” looking for the deer that were never out when he wanted to shoot them. He always had to play his Don Williams CD while “gravel traveling.”

Mark is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kim and their children: Heather (Paul) Wayman, Tyler Ozono, Tabitha Hendershott, Betsy (Luke) Spaur, Shelby (Mike) Perry and Kiera Shipley; his grandchildren that he was so very proud of: Carson, Cambria and Kinley Wayman, Quinn and Rylie Ozono, Quinlan and Nova Hendershott, Sophia, Piper and Ivy Spaur, and Jordan, Kaleb, Alexis and Letty Perry; his siblings: Rick (Sandy) Weitzell, Patti Shepard, Darla Fordyce, Kim (Jan) Driscoll, Donna (Jim) Collins, Terri (Larry) Pacheco and Mike (Amy) Shipley; numerous nieces and nephews, and his sons from another mother: Cody Prusha and Adam Glendy.

Preceding him in his death are his parents, Jim and Karen Shipley and his granddaughter, Sabrina Hendershott.
