Mark Allen Smith

Mark Allen Smith, 65, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the CHI Health Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services for Mark will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Live on Nebraska or Iowa Donor Network. Mark was born on July 13, 1957 to parents Harvey and Helen (Moore) Smith in Marshalltown, Iowa. He grew up in Marshalltown and later graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1975. Following high school, he attended

Grand View College. Mark enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and served honorably in the United States Navy.

On November 18, 1978, Mark was united in marriage to Sharon Norris at the United Methodist Church in Pickerington, Ohio. Over the years, Mark worked for JBS/Swifts in Marshalltown, Firestone Tires, Farmhand in Grinnell, and later retired from Firestone Tires in Des Moines, Iowa. He was active within the Elks Lodge and the American Cribbage Congress.

In his free time, Mark loved to be outside, played football and wrestled in high school, went out on hunting and fishing trips, was an avid cribbage player, enjoyed cooking good meals, taking trips to the buffets, playing pool, and traveling. Additionally, he showed Hackney show ponies.

Mark is survived by his brother, Mont (Debra) Smith; his cousin, John Bunte, and numerous nieces, nephews and other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, his parents, Harvey and Helen Smith, his two sisters Pamela Smith and Patricia Smith, and his infant brother Michael Eugene Smith.
