Marlene Allen, 73, of Colo, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at her home. Funeral services for Marlene will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in State Center, Iowa, with Pastor David Klinge officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Chapel in State Center, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Marlene and her family. Marlene Allen was born on July 20, 1939, the daughterof Arnold and Erma (Pfantz) Riese. She was educated at St. John Lutheran Parochial School, and later graduated from Colo High School. After high school, Marlene graduated from AIB in Des Moines, Iowa with a business degree. Marlene was united in marriage to Richard Allen on October 7, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church. Even though they parted ways, they were blessed with three children between them: Mike, Jim and Steven. After Marlene graduated from AIB she worked at Equitable Life. She was also a homemaker for many years, worked at Caseys General Store, for Iowa State Ready Mix Trucking, and her most recent job was working for Prairie Meadows. Marlene enjoyed researching Wendish genealogy. Marlene had a passion for her granddaughters, sewing, gardening, hunting, fishing, baking, mushroom hunting and anything that had to do with being outdoors. Earlier in life she also enjoyed earning extra money sewing Barbie doll clothes and making graduation cakes that always seemed to turn out perfect. Marlene is survived by her three sons: Mike (Diane Mahn) Allen, Jim (Rhonda) Allen, and Steve Allen; one daughterher faithful dog, Mattie two granddaughters: Sarah and Missy Allen; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She is preceded in death by her Parents; Arnold and Erma; one brother Rob Riese.
