Marley Bacon, age 85, of Garwin, passed away in the peace and comfort of his home early Friday morning, October 27th, 2023, with family at his side and while in care of the Iowa River Hospice.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4th, at the Garwin Valley Community Church in Garwin with Pastor Seth Hedman officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Garwin Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 3rd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born on September 23rd, 1938, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Darrell and Margaret (Wieck) Bacon. He graduated from the Garwin High School in 1956 and then attended ISU for one year.
On June 3rd, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joan Heiberger at the Little Brown Church. They made their home at Garwin all of their married lives.
Marley was a born farmer. Even upon retirement, he couldn’t leave the passion of it alone. He loved the crops but would pass on the livestock. He was also a member of the Garwin Valley Community Church (formerly Garwin United Methodist) and served on the Garwin Union Cemetery board. Known for his sense of humor, he enjoyed fishing, working on machinery and activities with family.
Left to mourn his loss are Joan, his loving wife of 65 years; children- Curtis Bacon, Marcia (Bernie) Schuller and David (Frances) Bacon; seven grandchildren- Julianne, Erin, Troy, Sean, Cory, Kelly and Luke and nine- great-grandchildren- Claire, Case, Emmett, Rhett, Klay, Quinn, Riley, Emma and Josie as well as his sister Betty (Ralph) Geiter and other family and friends.
In death, he rejoined his parents.
