Marlys Diehm, 84, of Marshalltown, died late Wednesday night, May 26th, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday , May 29th, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Scott Lothe of the Hope United Methodist Church officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Crystal Cemetery near Garwin following a lunch with the family. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until, the service time. Born Marlys Jane Paustian on April 7th, 1926, in Tama County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Clarence and Alma Justena (Luethje) Paustian. She received her education in Garwin, Crystal Township #8 and graduated from the Toledo High School in 1944. Marlys was employed at the Central Iowa Telephone Co. and the Central Iowa Grain Co. office until her marriage to Roger W. Diehm on April 10th, 1946 at Waterloo, Iowa. They farmed on farms in Tama County and lived near Garwin in later years. She was employed at the Tama High School Lunch Program and the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for 9 years. Marlys made her home at Sunset Village for 15 years and most recently at Westtown Apts. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Mary Martha Circle, Friendly Neighbors Club at Garwin and a hospice volunteer for many years. Some of the greatest joys in her life were her children, grandchildren, baking and flowers. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Roger David (Mary) Diehm of Waterloo, Donald (Laurie) Diehm of Reinbeck, Dennis (Roxann) Diehm of Marshalltown and Daniel (Megan) Diehm of Palo, Iowa, her daughter Denae (Dale) Haack of Gladbrook, 15 grandchildren: Christine Bunz, Melinda Smith, Joshua Diehm, Angela Latchman, Anthony Diehm, Aarin Jensen, Elliott Diehm, Evan Diehm, Amanda Diehm, Jessica Diehm, Brent Schmitz, Tandi Davis, Sarah Haack, Dan Haack and Deagan Haack; 11 great-grandchildren, and one-brother Dick Paustian of Toledo. In death, she has rejoined her parents, her former husband Roger, daughter Dianne, grandson Matthew Diehm, brother Leland Paustian and friend Leland Frahm.
