Marlys Wegner

Marlys Wegner, 80, of Gladbrook passed away at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home Friday, September 16, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook at 10:30 with a visitation held the night before at the Peace United Church from 5-7:00 p.m. For more information please feel free to contact www.Mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Marlys Siemens was born on October 26, 1935 in rural Gladbrook to Harry and Alvena (Dreessen). Marlys attended school in the Gladbrook School District and graduated with the class of 1953. Marlys was united in marriage to Carroll Wegner at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa on April 10, 1954. Marlys and Carroll had lived on the family farm for their entire married lives. She loved to help out on the farm milking cows with Carroll. She also helped out her son, Joey, at Deselms Shop as the self-appointed public relations manager. Marlys was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and the Ladies Auxiliary Group of Gladbrook. Marlys was an avid fan of sports including the Green Bay Packers, and college basketball, and during the NCAA Tournament, the family knew not to call her until the games were finished. Marlys was very active in the world of bingo and would travel with a group of close friends to play at the casino. Marlys was a busy woman but always found time for her family and loved to go to her grandchildrens events. Left to cherish Marlys memory are her children Joey (Michele) Wegner of Gladbrook, and Lee (David) Groth of Toledo. Grandchildren: Lindsey, Austin, Codi, and Garrett Groth, and Brooke (Jon) and Hunter Wegner, and sister Marilyn Eggers. In death she rejoins her loving husband of 60 years Carroll and her parents, Harry and Alvena.
