Martha Jean Vajgrt

The beautiful smile and vibrant personality of Martha Vajgrt, age 94, of Marshalltown, passed peacefully in the comfort of her home on the night of Tuesday, May 13th. Funeral services for Martha will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Lee Krukow officiating. Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday. Memorial contributions may be directed in Marthas name to the Marshalltown Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses or Iowa River Hospice. Born Martha Jean Castle on March 19th, 1920, in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Richard Eber and Gretchen (Brott) Castle. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School Class of 1937. On April 20th, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joseph Paul Vajgrt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home six miles south of Marshalltown where they farmed for 54 years and raised their two daughters. Her faith was strong, and she was a devoted member of the Jehovahs Witnesses congregation, sharing her beliefs with many residents of local nursing homes. Martha enjoyed gardening, and sharing fresh, frozen and home canned vegetables with neighbors and friends. She was also known for her hospitality and her famous Angel food cake. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jolene Tesar, Janine (Larry) Maynes and son-in-law Dave Tesar, her grandchildren- Tara Klein, Rita Tesar and Heather (Steven) Strang, her precious great-grandchildren- Cole Tesar, Cassidy Klein, Cade Klein, Jade Tesar, Ethan and Julian Oliver, Olivia Strang and Nolan Strang as well as many friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson Chad Tesar and a sister.
