Martin Gray, 83, of rural Marshalltown, died late Tuesday evening, March 1st, at his home while in the loving care of his family and Iowa Hospice.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5th, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rich King officiating. Full military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice or First Presbyterian Church. He came into the world on October 10, 1927, in Marshalltown, and graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1945. Prior to his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and graduated upon returning home. He later served our country honorably in the United States Marines Corps in the Korean Conflict.On August 5, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mavis Jordan at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. They have always made their home near Marshalltown where he was employed as sales representative for the Marshalltown Instrument Co. in the northeast US and Canada. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, life member of the VFW, American Legion, served as a delegate of the Republican Party to local and state caucuses, former member of the Junior Achievement and was passionate about Boy Scouting. He treasured his family, enjoyed camping, deer hunting and fishing- especially at Martins Fishing Hole at the Yellow River, golfing and traveling.Left to cherish his memory are Mavis, his loving wife of 51 years, four children: Robert Gray of Ft. Worth, TX; Linda (Steven) Fogarty of Farmington, Iowa and their family- Ryan of Denver, CO, Scott (Amy), Evan and Austin of Donnellson, Iowa, and Erin Fogarty of Las Colinas, TX; John (Janet) Gray of Savannah, TX and their family- Andrew, Ian and Tucker; Pamela (Greg) Bowles of Phoenix, AZ and their family- Greg (Tiffany) of Springfield, IL and Scott (Laura), and Lana of Phoenix, AZ.In death, he rejoined his brother Jess JC and his parents.
