Marty Saigh

Marshall Lee Saigh, known to his friends and family as “Marty,” of North Mankato, MN, passed away on Friday, November 5th, 2021, surrounded by his entire family. Marty was born in Fort Dodge, IA on May 28, 1954 to Jim and Theda Saigh. His family moved to Marshalltown, IA in 1964 where he attended St. Mary’s / Lenihan Catholic School and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1972. While attending Marshalltown High School, Marty met Pam Pollard, who would later become his wife when they said, “I do” on October 9th, 1976. Pam referred to him as her “Main Man Marty.” They welcomed their daughter, Lisa in 1980 and their son, A.J. in 1984. Marty loved being a husband and father. He enjoyed watching and participating in his children’s activities. It didn’t matter if it was a sporting event or a major life event, he was so incredibly proud of his kids. Marty never ended a phone call or visit without saying “I love you.” Marty had many interests, but running “lead the pack.” Always up for a challenge, every birthday Marty would “run his age.” This year when he turned 67, he ran 6.7 miles. We wish we could have seen him hit the 9 mile mark. He also enjoyed fishing with Pam at the lake, bike riding on the state trails and spending (too much) time in his home gym. Watching his grandchildren grow always brought the biggest smile to his face. Marty spent most of his career in the food service industry working for Harker’s Distribution, Reinhart Foodservice and Happy Chef restaurants. His career in food service made him increasingly aware of community hunger. Marty felt it was important to give back, making annual donations to a local food shelf. People who knew Marty knew he had an enormous heart and cared deeply about his family. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Pam; his daughter Lisa Saigh of Scottsdale, AZ and his son A.J. (Melissa) Saigh and three young grandchildren: Linna, Jimmy & Tony, of Victoria, MN. Marty also leaves behind his sister Tobi (Brian) Greene of Marshalltown, IA; his brother Craig Saigh of Omaha, NE; father-in-law and mother-in-law John and LaVonne Pollard of Marshalltown, IA; sisters-in-law: Peg (Steve) Niedermann of Marshalltown, IA, Paula (Bob) Nusbaum of State Center, IA and Patrice (Sean) Ervin of Sioux Falls, SD and brother-in-law John (Amy) Pollard of Marshalltown, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Theda Saigh, sister Jana Saigh, sister-in-law Jean Saigh and his great-nephew Westley Greene.Memorial services for Marty will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 20th, immediately followed by a celebration of life until 3:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Avenue West in Marshalltown, Iowa. The time together will begin with his family sharing memories of Marty, followed by a reception, where they will serve some of his favorites.
