Marvin “Marv” Lynch, 95, of Marshalltown, passed away early in the morning on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare. At this time, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services will take place. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation. Born February 22, 1925 in rural Marshalltown, he was the son of Perry and Ruth (Lowry) Lynch. He graduated from Green Mountain High School, where he took flying classes and excelled at sports, especially baseball and basketball. He and his father also played on a fast-pitch softball league together. On Christmas Eve 1944, Marv was united in marriage to Betty Berry. Together with their three children they lived in Green Mountain, at Union Grove Lake and eventually settled in Marshalltown. He worked for the Marshalltown School District Building and Grounds, doing all of the welding work. Marv was a member of the Moose Lodge and their traveling golf league. He lived and breathed sports and was a very talented athlete. He loved bowling and received a ring on February 4, 1999 after bowling a perfect 300. He was die-hard Cubs fan, as well as the Hawkeyes, Cyclones and Vikings. Marv also loved camping and fishing in Canada. He always told things how they were and people knew exactly where they stood with him. Marv lived a good long life and credited that to all the peanut butter and mustard sandwiches he ate and Pepsi that he drank. Marv is survived by his children: Barry Lynch of Marshalltown and Deb Lynch of Nevada; his grandsons: Shane (Chantel) Lynch and James Lynch; great-grandsons: Cole and Jase Lynch and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty; his son, Gary Lynch, who just passed away one week ago; his parents and his sisters: Colleen (Bob) Keese and Betty Lutes.
