He graduated from the Melbourne High School in 1959.           This little school in this little town in the middle of Iowa held an amazing love story. When Marvin was 6 years of age, he suffered life-threatening burns and was at the University of Iowa Burn Center for a year. Upon returning to first grade, there was a new girl who moved to Melbourne with her family- Barbara Harsha. 16 years later this couple was united in marriage. They began their married lives together on September 16th, 1962, at the United Church of Christ in Melbourne .          Marvin graduated from the Iowa Barber College that same year and practiced for 5 years before employment at Fisher Controls. He was faithfully employed there until retiring in 2000.           Marvin and Barb designed and built a house south of Marshalltown and called it home for 47 wonderful years. It was in this home that they were blessed with the arrival of a son and daughter. They enjoyed the country landscape, gardening and family activities. As the years and challenges of maintaining a large house developed, they moved into town. Marvin enjoyed these last years watching animal shows, reading, fishing and being with family and friends, and especially his dog, Megan.Mr. Hawkins was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church.           Left to cherish his memory is Barb, his loving wife of 58 years; son Craig (Audrey) Hawkins; daughter Dawn (Mark) Stallman; brother Donald of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Rudy, Harrison, Ritchina Stallman and Caitlin Scully and Jared and Nicole Wonders, his dog Megan as well as nieces and nephews and friends.           In death, Marvin rejoined his parents, sister Pat (Donald) Howard, granddaughter Grace, and his parent-in-laws Ed and Carolyn Harsha.
