Marvin Landis, 79, of New Providence, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on (NOTE DATE) Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held Friday, April 3, from 5 to 7 pm at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Marvin and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Marvin Jon Landis was born in Rhodes, Iowa; on May 27, 1935 to Leonard and Hallie (Johnson) Landis. He was educated in the Union and Liscomb school districts. He received his Engineering Certificate from the University of Northern Iowa later in life. On December 31, 1956, Marvin was united to the love of his life, Helen Elizabeth Wallace in the church parsonage in New Sharon, Iowa. Marvin and Helen had lived in Montour, Hubbard, Bangor and finally settled in New Providence, Iowa. He worked at Fisher Controls, farmed with his dad and on his own, Winnebago in Mason City and U-Haul designing trailers and building them with fiberglass. He also built a Mastodon for Big Bone Lick State Park in Kentucky out of fiberglass, he was head of maintenance of Eldora Hospital and sold and repaired CB radios, and after retiring he delivered newspapers for the Des Moines Register and Times Republican. Marvin had many, many hobbies to include hunting, fishing, farming, traveling, racing stock cars and building engines for cars. He was a craftsman and loved working with any kind of tools. His favorite hobby was to teach his children and grandchildren everything that he had learned throughout his life. Marvin cherished spending time with his family more than anything else. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years Helen, of New Providence, Iowa, children: Wesley(Cindy) Landis of Eldora, Iowa, Doug Landis of Union, Iowa, Theresa(Michael) Aucoin of New Providence, Iowa and Troy( Lori) Landis of Minnesota, grandchildren, Jonathan(Jennifer) Landis, Courtney(Andrea) Landis, Cody Landis, David Landis, and Edward Aucoin, great-grandchildren: Dusten, Aaden, Ahnna, Isabella and Victoria, step-grandchildren Ashley( Devvon) Harding, Rena and Russell Sells, and step great grandchildren Jonathan, Domonick, Brantley, Paisley and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
