Mary Jane Fry

Mary Jane Fry, 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home. Mary Sommerlot, daughter of Art and Maxine Speas Sommerlot, was born on February 26, 1940 at Liscomb, Iowa. She graduated from Albion High School. On December 5, 1970; Mary was united in marriage to Dan Fry in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary and Dan made their home in Marshalltown. They most recently resided at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center, where they have received wonderful care and been blessed with many precious friendships. Most of Marys career was spent working as a nursing assistant at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center and at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Mary loved all of her family so very much and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed helping other people in any way that she could and those that knew her soon recognized that she had a heart of gold. Mary enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading; especially her Bible. Mary attended New Hope Christian Church. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 43 years; Dan. Daughter: Danette Fry (David) Hurkman. Grandson: Justin Hurkman. Brother: Don (Lorraine) Sommerlot. Sister: Ruth (Martin) Roelsgard and many nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Art and Maxine Sommerlot, and a brother, Larry Sommerlot.
