Mary Lou Hala, 79, of 408 E. Dawn Street, LeGrand, died peacefully Wednesday, June 27th, at her daughters home in Marshalltown while in care of the Iowa River Hospice and her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30th, at St. Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown with Fr. Louis Jaeger as celebrant. She will be laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Cemetery northeast of Toledo, Iowa. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. public vigil service. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Mary Lou Skarda on October 23rd, 1927, in Chelsea, Iowa, she was the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Hanousek) Skarda. She attended the country schools near Chelsea. She received her GED in 1978. On November 20th, 1951, she was united in marriage to Leonard Hala at Toledo. He preceded her in death 34 years ago. Mrs. Hala made her home in LeGrand where she was employed as a bus driver and school custodian for 16 years at the LDF Schools. Mary Lou was a faithful member of St. Henrys Catholic Church and enjoyed her family, her cat Precious, watching Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right, polka music on the radio on Sunday morning, Kolaches, playing bingo, fixing and revitalizing things and will be remembered as a genuine and good person. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.Left to celebrate her life are her three children: Betty (Barry) Lundeby of Marshalltown, Robert (Janet) Hala of Newton, Leonard Hala of Marshalltown, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her brother Chuck Skarda of Toledo and sister Ann (Kenneth) Niedermann of Marshalltown.In death she has rejoined her parents and her husband Leonard.
