Mary Ann Greene Hoeft of Marshalltown, IA passed peacefully Thursday April 27th at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, IA after a brief battle with cancer.
Mary was born September 7th, 1944 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred Oscar and Alma Olina Brackey Greene. She was raised in Kiester, MN and graduated from Kiester High School in 1962.
Mary met the love of her life Duane June 17th, 1959 and they married October 20th, 1963 in Kiester, MN.
Mary graduated in April 1963 from Americana Academy of Beauty in Des Moines, IA. She was a very talented and well-known hairstylist for 52 years, she owned and operated her salon, Mary’s Hair Fashions. She loved playing games, but a good bridge game was her favorite and she was a member of many bridge clubs in Marshalltown and Sun Lakes, AZ. She was also an avid fan of University of Iowa and Iowa State University men’s and women’s basketball. She loved her Cyclones and Hawkeyes!
Mary was very outgoing and had a contagious laugh. She never met a stranger that didn’t become her friend by the end of the conversation. Her favorite introduction was, “Hi, I am Mary Hoeft from Marshalltown, IA”.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years Duane Hoeft of Marshalltown, IA; son Greg Hoeft and husband Lorenzo Wilkins of Dallas, TX; grandson Malyk Wilkins of Dallas, TX; twin daughters Teri Hoeft of Chandler, AZ and Trudy Hoeft of Chandler, AZ; sister Sharon Kalis and husband Albert of Montgomery, MN; sisters-in-law Karen Christenson of Belmond, IA & Elaine Wessels of Belmond, IA; brother-in-law Arlo Hoeft of Forest City, IA; several nieces and nephews and many friends who loved her dearly.
In eternal life, she is reunited with her parents Alfred & Alma, her sisters Hazel Sampson of Kiester, MN, Jeane Hellie of Kiester, MN and Lavonne Scott of Placentia, CA.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 2nd from 5-7 p.m. and the funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, IA. Mary will be cremated and interned at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester, MN at a later date.
