Mary Kratoska

Mary B. Kratoska, 83, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 8, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Services for Mary will take place on Tuesday, September 14 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Attendees are encouraged to wear casual attire. Born September 11, 1937 in Marshall County, she was the daughter of Eugene and Dora (Hinkle) Petersen and attended school at Green Mountain. Mary met the love of her life, Richard Kratoska, at the Forest Park Dance Hall. They were united in marriage on June 14, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together they made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their two daughters. Mary was a hard worker, starting at Marshalltown Manufacturing, then KIOWA and Marshalltown Trowel before creating her own cleaning business. She had a strong faith and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Catholic Church. In her free time, Mary loved baking, sewing, playing bingo, shopping and craft shows. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary and Richard enjoyed dancing and their trips to Branson, Missouri, where they attended many country music shows. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Richard; her two daughters: Shelly (Rick) Karr and Sheila (Bill) Turnbull; grandchildren: Tonya (Jim) Rock, Mandy (Michael) Hanson, Jake Turnbull and Allie Turnbull; great-grandchildren: Landan McManus, Nolan McManus, Lincoln Rock and Maverick Rock and her beloved Shihtzu, Missy. In death, she is reunited with her parents and her siblings: Bud, Gerald, Betty, Jack, Dora Jean, Shirley, Harold Lee and Reta.
