Mary C. McEvoy, 94, of Marshalltown, formerly of State Center, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center.A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the St. Josephs Catholic Church in State Center. The family would like to thank Southridge andCare Initiativesfor the care they gave Mary.Mary Catherine McEvoy was born in Creston, IA, on February 21, 1917; she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Bradley) McCann. Mary attended High School in the Creston, IA area. She then later attended some college at Drake University in Des Moines and then finished up at the Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, California. In 1944, in Creston, IA, Mary was united in marriage to Raymond McEvoy. Shortly after their marriage, Bernard was born into this union. In 1948, four years into their marriage, Raymond passed away. Mary worked for the Navy for some time and later transferred to the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), were she worked for 37 years. She first worked for the IRS in Des Moines and then transferred to Santa Barbara, CA. Mary resided in Santa Barbara, CA for many years until her sons death in 2001. She then moved back to Iowa shortly thereafter to be near family. Mary was a member at the St. Josephs Catholic Church in State Center. Mary enjoyed golfing and traveling.Left to cherish Marys memory is her brother-in-law, Lawrence Myers of State Center, her sister-in-law, Bernadine Fugate of Chatsworth, Illinois, and her many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by husband, Raymond; her son, Bernard; her parents; and eight siblings.
