Mary Lou McLain, 71, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa. Services for Mary Lou will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Mary Lou Dyche was born on January 15, 1944 to Gid and Nan Harman Dyche in Greenwood, Mississippi. Mary Lou served her country honorably in the United States Navy from June 21, 1963 until her honorable discharge on September 9, 1966. On January 1, 1995, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Claudie McLain in Marshalltown. Mary Lou had been previously employed as a restaurant manager. She managed the Travel Lodge Diner and the restaurant at the Sale Barn. She was the owner of Mary Lous Uptown Caf in Marshalltown. She also was the dietary supervisor for Southridge Nursing Home from 2000 until her retirement in 2008. Mary Lou was a member of the Lincoln Valley Golf Course, Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Ames. Mary Lou enjoyed golfing, fishing and baking and just being in the kitchen. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 20 years, Claudie. Son: Brett (Joy) McLain of Ames. Grandchildren: Ashley (Ben Boydstun) McLain of Marshalltown and Brittany McLain of Cedar Falls. Great grandchildren: Zoe, Cayde, Carter and Camden Boydstun. Sister: Pat Fletcher of North Carolina. Sister in law Carol (Ron) Schoberg of Harrison, Arkansas and brother in law Jerry McLain of Marshalltown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents: Gid and Nan, daughter: Nan Maxfield and sister Ethel Harbison.
