She attended a one room country schoolhouse through the 8th grade. During the Great Depression, when the family left farming and moved to Lovington, IL, Mary attended Lovington High School, where she graduated in 1935. As a young woman, Mary held many jobs to assist her family, including work as a seamstress, nanny, and housekeeper. After high school, she was employed by the A. E. Mary Naughton was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker, good neighbor, and volunteer for school and community projects. After her own children were grown, Mary provided day care in her home for many years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, attending Marshalltown Community Theater, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. Mary was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church for more than 60 years and participated in the Ave Maria Study Club until her death. After her husbands death in 1997, Mary lived in Marshalltown with her son Greg. In 2010, she moved to Winston-Salem, NC, to join the household of her daughter Michelle.
