Mary Newell

The creative personality of Mary Newell, age 79, of Gilman, left this world on the morning of Monday, February 23rd, at the MMSC. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation with her family will be one-hour prior to the service. Born on September 10th, 1935, in Pella, Iowa, she was one of two children born to Oscar and Ruth (Vande Kamp) Newell. She began her education in Unionville, Missouri before moving to Laurel and then graduating from the Gilman High School in 1954. Mary later attended night classes every quarter and was employed at Fisher Controls for over 30 years. Mary will be fondly remembered for her outgoing personality, love of family, singing, working the political polls, volunteering and making jewelry. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Stephaney (Dean) Barber of Marshalltown, grandchildren-Matthew Barber and Lindsey (Trevor) Sirdoreus all of Marshalltown, great-grandchildren- Andrew, Joshua, Jeremiah and Zane and many friends. In death, she rejoined her parents and only brother, Max Newell.
