Mary Kathleen (Hennis) Snyder, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at the age of 81 with her family by her side. Mary was known for her mischievous smile, her incredible ability to bring joy to any gathering, her love of family, tremendous style, legendary potato salad, and beautiful decorating.
Born in Marshalltown to Leland and Mary (Dravis) Hennis, Mary grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She inherited her passion for cooking from her mother (even winning a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair for homemade Angel food cake) and became famous for her delicious potato salad, a secret recipe she held tight!! Mary was not only a master in the kitchen, but also a master of finding the best deal, often shopping with her best friend and sister Judy. Her extreme shopping skills were legendary, and she loved to share her finds with her family and shared her finds through her beautiful decorating at her home.
But above all, Mary cherished her family. She was married to the love of her life for 49 years, Charles (Chuck) Snyder. She was the heart and soul of every family gathering, bringing everyone together with her warmth and love. Whether it was a backyard barbecue or a holiday feast, Mary's potato salad was always the star of the show, and her joy at being together could be felt by all.
Mary is survived by her loving children: Christina (Bernie) Massey, Tim (Karen) Snyder, Tom (Aimee) Snyder, Kathleen (Tyrone) Patterson, Stephen Snyder; Grandchildren; Natalie (Jacob) Weuve, Nicole (Kraig) Miller, Ashley (Joe) Eilbeck, Malcom Hawk, Benjamin Snyder, TJ Snyder, Spencer Snyder, Samantha Snyder, and Carson Snyder. Mary had numerous great-grandchildren - Ryleigh, Myles, Jackson, Addison, Emma, Alivia, Cole, Ellie, Easton, and Mila. Great-Great Grandchildren Nova, Maeve, Stetson, and Harrison. Numerous nieces, and nephews. Sister Judy (Terry) Beckham and Sister-in-Law Evelynn (Bennie) Hennis.
Preceding her in death: her parents Leland and Mary (Dravis) Hennis, husband Charles Snyder, brothers Bennie and Dale Hennis, son Tim Snyder, son-in-Law Bernie Massey, grandson Jacob Weuve, great-granddaughter Ava Jade McMullen. Along with a large extended family who will miss her dearly; though she may be gone, her spirit will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her.
