Mary Stanfield

Mary Stanfield, 93, of Marshalltown, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation for Mary will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Marys name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Mary was born July 23, 1919, in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of James and Anna (Steelman) Barnes. She was raised and educated in rural New Providence, Iowa. Mary was united in marriage to David Stanfield on March 4, 1939, and to this union two children were born. In addition to raising her children, Mary worked side by side with her husband in the floor covering business. Throughout their lifetime they made their home in Decorah, Eldora and Marshalltown before retiring to New Mexico for several years. Mary enjoyed sewing, mushroom hunting, spending time with her husband David and especially the many family times spent together with their family. Together, Mary and David were long-time members of the D.A.V. and the Redeemer Lutheran Church.Mary is survived by her children: Charles (Vicky) Stanfield of Marshalltown and Jane Schlaeppi of Rochester, Minnesota, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David and her siblings: Charlie, Clint, Bonnie and Gladys and her son-in-law, Donald Schlaeppi.
