Mary Marcella "Sally" White

Mary M. “Sally” White, age 94 ½, left this earthly life on the morning of Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with family at her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 16th, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Mary Church, 9 West Linn Street in Marshalltown, with Fr. Alan Dietzenbach officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. Thursday August 15th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Mary Marcella “Sally” Fitzpatrick White was born on Christmas day of 1924, the 4th of 11 children born to Thomas and Katherine Fitzpatrick. Sally was born shortly after her twin brother, Vincent “Casey” Fitzpatrick at home on the family farm in Churdan, IA after her mother, Kate Fitzpatrick, played the organ for midnight Mass and made Christmas dinner for the extended family! Sally graduated from Churdan High School and went on to the St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, IA. After working for a time in Iowa City as an RN, Sally moved to Marshalltown, IA where she was employed as an RN at St. Thomas Mercy Hospital. It was at Mercy Hospital that she met Edward White, who was a patient. Ed asked her out and the rest is history. Edward White and Sally Fitzpatrick were married at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan, IA on May 13th, 1952. Sally gave up her career and stayed home to raise their six children. Sally is survived by her six children and families: Kathleen White (Andrew) Miller of Waseca, MN with their children Keith (Emily) Miller of Mounds View, MN, Reid (Racheal) Miller of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada (great-grandson Owen Miller and Baby Boy Miller due in October) and Paige Miller of Minneapolis, MN; Kevin White of Des Moines; Patricia White (Randy) Fowler of Marshalltown with their children Katherine (Trevor) Harvey of Parkville, MO. (great-grandsons Jackson and Lucas Harvey) and Mary Fowler of Des Moines; Sheila White Fisher of Aurora, CO and son Eric Fisher of Syracuse, NY; Brian (Jill) White of Overland Park, KS and children Megan White (Sean) Laughlin of Fayetteville, AR and Alison White of Overland Park, KS; and Michael (Jannie) White of Chicago, IL and children Emily, Gabrielle and Liam White. Also surviving are two sisters- Helen (Ray) Stamper of Bakersfield, CA and Mary Station of Gilbert, AZ, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were Ed White, her loving husband of 57 years; brothers- Pete, Vincent “Casey”, Dick, Paul and Leo; sisters- Regina Murphy, Margaret Vogel and Sister Kathryn Fitzpatrick OSF.
