Marylin Kay Gean, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Per the wishes of Marilyn and her family, private services will be held with Chaplain Harlan Nuss officiating. She will be laid to rest at Conrad Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation or to the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Born Marylin Kay Biesnecker on June 7, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Richard and Genevieve (Mayer) Biesnecker. Her family relocated to central Iowa and she graduated from Beaman Conrad High School in 1961. After meeting the love of her life, Bobby Gean, they were united in marriage on March 9, 1963 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their family.
Marylin was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a hard worker outside of the home. She worked at Fisher Controls for three years, followed by 21 years at Arbie Feeds and 11 years at Mycogen IEF Lab before her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and 4H. Marylin showed several grand champions at the Grundy County Fair and one at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, Colorado. She was active with Marshalltown Little League, serving as board member and president of the Little League Auxiliary. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed traveling to many bowl games over the years, including two in Texas, six in Florida and one Rose Bowl. She also looked forward to annual summer trips to Table Rock Lake.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 59 years, Bobby; her children: Troy (Belinda) Gean of Gainesville, GA, Todd (Dawn) Gean of Des Moines, IA and Tina (Mark) Estrem of Slater, IA; her grandchildren: Ryan (Alexa) Gean of Minnetrista, MN, Rachel (Watson) McKinney of Ankeny, IA, Victoria, Austin and Chance Gean, all of Gainesville, GA and Clay and Cael Estrem, both of Slater, IA; and two precious great-grandchildren: Macalan and Maylie McKinney.
In eternal life, Marylin is reunited with her son, Jeffrey Gean; parents, Richard and Genevieve Biesnecker; and her grandparents: Eva and Albert Mayer and Maude and Conrad Biesnecker; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
