Mary Lou Chadderdon, age 95, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, April 4, 2026. Mary Lou was a woman whose life was marked by resilience, hospitality, and an unwavering dedication to her family.

Born Mary Louise Rose Agnes Rutt on March 18, 1931 in Le Sueur, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Francis “Frank” and Mary (Velishek) Rutt. She grew up in Minnesota alongside her ten siblings.

Mary Lou was united in marriage with Abe Chadderdon on January 11, 1947, in Shakopee, MN. She began her journey into motherhood at an early age and fully embraced the challenge of raising four children in Le Center MN, balancing the demanding role of wife and homemaker with a tireless work ethic. They made their way in 1954 to Wagner, SD and in 1957 to Chamberlain, SD, and added two more children to her life. In 1977 she and Abe relocated to Eureka, KS, where they owned and operated the Blue Stem Lodge until retirement.

Mary Lou valued education and self-improvement, earning her GED in the early nineties—a testament to her belief in perseverance and personal growth. Her hands were never idle outside of work; whether it was quilting, crocheting or spending time in the kitchen. She was an excellent cook and always welcoming – a true hostess, ensuring guests never left hungry or without a sense of comfort. Her skills for baking were unmatched, whether it was kolaches, pies, cookies, or cakes that became staples for family gatherings and celebrations.

Mary Lou's strength and resilience were further demonstrated by her courage in battling breast cancer—not once, but twice—emerging victorious and stronger each time. Her faith was a pillar of her life, and she was an active member at New Hope Christian Church. She was also a member of PEO Chapter JU-LT.

Though Mary Lou has departed from this earthly plane, the warmth of her smile, the generosity of her heart, and the legacy of her love remain deeply etched in the lives of all who knew her, including her six children: Charlotte Chadderdon of Marshalltown, IA, Donna (Wayne) Loveland of Devon, PA, Bonnie (Donnie) Kaufman of Albuquerque, NM, Abie (Penni) Chadderdon of Marshalltown, IA, Cindy (Kevin) Wood of Payson, AZ, and Marilee Clites of Wichita, KS; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Kathryn “Jeannie” (Henry) McGowan of AZ.

In eternal life, she was united with her beloved husband, Abe; her parents Frank and Mary; four brothers: Francis, Eddy, Kenneth and Gary Rutt; and five sisters: Estellen Bastyr, Delores Bultman, Lou Ella Gustafson, Beverly Rutt and Donna Ginter.

Per the wishes of Mary Lou and her family, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will take place at New Hope Christian Church at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 18 (please note date) with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. Memorials in her name may be directed to Susan G.
