Marylou Daniel

Marylou Daniel, 71, lifelong resident of Marshalltown, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Per the wishes of Marylou and her family, cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Marylou Lang on June 25, 1950 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Sylvester and Florence (Handfelt) Lang. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1968, she went on to receive a degree in psychology and a certified paralegal from Marshalltown Community College. A hardworking mother, she dedicated many years to the Times Republican sorting and delivering newspapers. Marylou loved her cats and was well-known for giving treats to cats on her route and for caring for stray cats. In her free time, Marylou was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi – St. Mary Catholic Church and liked spending time in meditation and reciting the rosary. She loved watching NFL football, especially the Dolphins. The day of her passing, the Dolphins had a rare win against the Patriots – a comforting sign from Marylou that her sons will never forget. She was strong-willed, living her life her own way and she will be deeply missed by those closest to her. Left to cherish her memory is her three sons: Raymond Lee (Elizabeth) Daniel of Marshalltown, Steven (Angie) Daniel of Ankeny and Nathan Buchanan of Marshalltown; three grandchildren: Samantha, Kristy and Matthew Daniel; six great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, William, Jeremiah, Hayden, Desmon and Matty; her siblings: Arlene Lang, Leo (Deb) Lang and Ambrose (Deb) Lang and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In death, she is reunited with her parents.
