Mary Lu (Wills) Smith passed away at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown, Iowa, on October 5th, 2015. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9th, 2015. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Mary Lu and her family. Phone (641) 844-1234. Mary Lu Wills was born on January 14th, 1932, to Chas F. and Luella (Melberg) Wills in LaMoille, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the LaMoille area and graduated with the class of 1950. On January 6th, 1978, she and A. Leon (Smitty) Smith were united in marriage in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they made their home here in Marshalltown, created a beautiful backyard, travelled and attended football games. They loved spending time with Smittys daughters; Donita (Tom) Beckam, Deanna (Dick) Rhiner, Darlene (Dick) Tomhave and Deborah (Steve) McCann and their children were a joy in their lives. In July of 2005, Smitty passed away. She worked as a dietary aid at MMSC for 6 years and invested 26 years at Marshalltown Instruments before she retired. Mary Lu was a member of the LaMoille church and the Ladies Elks club. Mary Lu enjoyed horses, quilting, singing with the Sweet Adelines, growing flowers, the Hawkeyes and on one occasion, skydiving. She was Aunt Mamie to many nieces and nephews. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings; Don (Dona) Wills, Muriel Wills, nieces and nephews include; Ken (Kris) Hickman, Kay (Jim) Stewart, David (Yvonne) Hickman, Tim (Lori) Hickman, Jeff (Glenda) Dixon, Robyn Lockwood, Todd (Rita) Lockwood, Kipp Lockwood, Kerri (John) Doody, Dane (Brenda) Wills and David Wills. In death she rejoins Grandparents; George and Alice Wills, her parents; Charles and Mary Wills, husband; A. Leon Smitty Smith, sisters; Shirley Dixon, Marion Hickman, Margie Lockwood, and a brother in-law; David Fullerton.
