Mason Stephens

Mason Stephens, 16, of LeGrand, died Monday morning, August 1.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, at the East Marshall High School gymnasium in LeGrand. Please attend the service in casual attire- East Marshall colors, Hawkeyes, or whatever you think Mason would like. He will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Friends and family alike are invited to walk in procession to the cemetery following the funeral. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at the East Marshall High School. Memorials may be directed to the family. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Mason and his family.A city boy with a country boy heart, Mason came into the world on July 17, 1995, in Marshalltown, and was the son of Mark and Rochelle (Keller) Stephens. He was a student at the East Marshall High School and was active in football and the golf team and previously wrestling. Mason enjoyed golfing, fishing, racing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals (much to his dads dislike!), listening to country music, riding go-karts and time spent with his family and friends. He was helping out area farmers- something he loved and had worked at LeGrand Sanitation. He was a member of the LeGrand Friends Church, the Legion, the Y and FFA.Left to cherish his memory are his parents, his sisters Courtney and Samantha at home, his grandparents David and Candis Keller of Holts Summit, MO, and Allen Stephens of LeGrand, great-grandma Ada Keller of Fairfield, Iowa, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends- all who will miss him deeply. He also is survived by Annie and Bandit- his dogs.In death, he rejoined his grandma Pat and cousins Dustin Ross and Ryan Platt.
