Matt Johnson, 52, of rural Melbourne, died early Tuesday morning, November 23rd, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Phone: (641) 844-1234. Born on July 9th, 1958, in Waterloo, Iowa, he was the son of Sidney and Harriet (Kemmerer) Johnson. He received his education in the area of his birth and graduated from the Waterloo West High School in 1976. On October 31st, 2001, he was united in marriage to Lynette Lorraine Magdaline Hoofnagle Ladewig. Matt had also served our country in the United States Marines Corps. Matt enjoyed the social atmosphere of his careers in bartending at Clarks Bar in Melbourne and the Corner Tap in Marshalltown and was previously employed at Waterloo Wilbert Vault in Waterloo. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, his dog Dippy, cooking, visiting with people and was a great cook (could make a hot dog into a gourmet meal). He treasured his family and friends and will be greatly missed by them. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Lindsay Cooke of Waterloo, Travis (Sarah) Cooke and their child Roben of Boone, sister Debbie (Mike) Paine of Reinbeck, step-father Herman Junior Thede of Reinbeck, his beloved wife Lynettes children: Nick (Emily) Ladewig and child Lilly of Marshalltown and Eric (Melanie) Ladewig of Villa Park, IL., as well as many friends. In death, he rejoined his parents, grandparents, his brother David who died at 9 months of age and his beloved wife, Lynette, who died in 2009.
