Born Maurice Clifford Johnson on November 1, 1910, in Albion, Iowa, he was the son of Charles and Ruth (Flathers) Johnson. He received his education in the Green Mountain Schools and served four years in the US Navy prior to WWII. This is where he learned his culinary talents that blessed him through life. Following his discharge from the Navy, Morry made his home in California where he worked as a chef for several Hollywood movie stars and played extras in many movies including The Crusades. Upon hearing of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Morry responded to his calling to defend our nation, and reenlisted voluntarily in the US Navy. He served in the Philippines and was a Chief Commissary Steward upon his discharge on October 9, 1945. On May 7th, 1947, in Santa Monica, CA, he was united in marriage to Ann (Frank). They operated the Modern Maid Caf there and later moved to Marshalltown where they owned and operated Morrys Caf and later Jax Supper Club. Mr. Johnson was a former member of the Elks and a member of the VFW and St. Marys Parish. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing, and the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Bev Rosenbohm, Ron (Kathy) Johnson and Barb Sandstead. Grandchildren: Kris, Adam, Jon, Dan, Michael and Matthew. Nieces: Marilyn Goedeke and Linda White, and several great-nieces and nephews. In death he has rejoined his beloved Ann, parents, brother Lloyd Johnson and sister Dorothy Bucholz.
