Maurice Tufte

Maurice Tufte, 90, of Gilman, Iowa, died on Monday, December 25, 2017.Cremation rites have been accorded and the family will be holding a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 925 East Street in Grinnell, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed in Maurice’s name to his family.  For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.  Maurice Tufte was born on September 16, 1927 in Gilman, Iowa, the son of Asmund and Hilda Tufte.  He was raised and educated in the Gilman School District, graduating from Gilman High School.  Following high school, Maurice honorably served our Country by enlisting with the United States Navy, where he served in both WWII and Korea.Maurice was united in marriage to Ruth (Heckle) in August of 1954, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He was employed at Arbie Feeds and also spent most of his life farming. Maurice had a passion for fishing, Iowa State, Minnesota Vikings and Twins as well as his Norwegian Heritage and his family. Left to cherish Maurice’s memory are his children: Susan Tufte, Mark (Diane) Tufte, Kris Brown and Matthew Tufte; grandchildren: Ryan Tish, Cyndthia Schrader, Mariah Shokai, Baily Tufte and Joscelyn Tufte; and five great grandchildren.
