Maxine Edwards 92, of State Center passed away at State Center Nursing and Rehab on Saturday morning, September 10, 2011 surrounded by her family and while under the care of Iowa River Hospice.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. also at the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center or Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Phone 641-844-1234.Maxine Lucille Conkin was born on November 1, 1918 near Clemons, Iowa she was the daughter of A.O. and Mary (Eckhardt) Conkin. Maxine attended school in St. Anthony graduating as the valedictorian with the class of 1936 she then attended Business School. After graduating she had worked at the State Center Ford Dealership. Maxine was united in marriage to Alvin Edwards on November 30, 1939 at St John Lutheran Church near State Center after the Thanksgiving Service. Maxine and Alvin farmed west of State Center where Maxine enjoyed being a farm wife, mother and homemaker and after retiring in 1976 they moved to State Center. Maxine was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, The Afternoon Social Club and a founding member of Marshall County ARC. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and above all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.Left to cherish her memory are her children; Max (Pamela) Edwards of Knoxville, Tennessee, Marcia Carson of Marshalltown, Marvin Edwards of State Center and Marilyn (Ron) Marr of Waukee, Iowa, and her 7 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, A.O. and Mary Conkin, her husband, Alvin, her brothers, Rufus, Jack, Eugene, Duane and a sister, Norraine Barnard, son-in-law, James Carson and great-great-grandson, Kevin Stackhouse Jr.
