Mary Maxine Welp, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Glenwood Place, while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time at 10:30 a.m. at the church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society. She was the daughter of Ambrose and Rose (Brink) Kennedy. Mary attended school at St Johns High School in Bancroft, Iowa, and went on to attend the University of Iowa graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. On August 3, 1948, Maxine was united in marriage to William Welp at St Johns Catholic Church in Bancroft, Iowa. Soon after their marriage, they called Marshalltown home. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Russ (Janine) Welp of McKinney, Texas, and Bill Welp Jr. (Joyce Taylor) of Marshalltown, Iowa. Grandchildren: Jenny (Alex) Bonzer, Jessie (Dan) Bishop, Drew (Kim) Welp, Sara Welp, and Lauren Welp. Great grandchildren: Claire, Katelyn, Evelyn, Brody, Blake, Hadley and William. Brothers: Bill (Alice) Kennedy, Jim (Ellen) Kennedy; and sisters, Shirley Horan, and Joan McDonald. In death Maxine rejoins husband, Bill, and daughter, Geri Weaver.
