Maybelle Marie Kriegel, 86, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A celebration of Maybelle's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation for Maybelle will be held at 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December, 19, 2012.Memorial contributions may be directed in Maybelles name to her family. For further information or to send a condolence, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641)844-1234.The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Maybelle and her family.Maybelle Marie Kriegel was born on a small farm northwest of Wilson, Kansas on May, 24, 1926, the daughter of Albert and Viola Keller. She attended a one room school house near Wilson thru the 8th grade. She then attended high school at Dorrance, Kansas, graduating in 1944.After high school, she enrolled in a nurses training program in 1944 at Salina, Kansas. She later transferred to St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. Maybelle graduated from St. Thomas in 1948 with a 3 year diploma as an R.N. Maybelle was united in marriage to Fred J. Kriegel in February, 1949, and they were married until 1968.Maybelle worked as a nurse for several years at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, the State Hospital in Fairbault, MN, a nursing home in Newton, IA, and at Grand View Heights in Marshalltown. Maybelle retired from nursing in 1984 to take care of her dear friend and companion of many years. She truly enjoyed to sew many items for her family and friends, always had a batch of cookies available to anyone she met, and she liked to bet a quarter on almost any televised sporting event. Maybelle moved to Grandview Heights nursing home in October, 2008, and she considered the staff and residents there her extended family.She is survived by: three children: Michael Kriegel of Marshalltown, IA, Audrey (David) Dowd of New Hampton, IA, and Jon (Kristine) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Matthew, Rhonda, Benjamin, and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Davion, Kea, and Eliana; one nephew Steven Kriegel of Gilman, IA.Maybelle trusted in Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 2008 and in death is reunited with her father Albert, mother Viola, and brother Walter Keller.
