Maynard Doty, Jr., 64, of 113 North 15th Street, Marshalltown, died late Saturday night, June 23rd, at the MMSC while in care of the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow at the Moose Lodge after burial. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Maynard and his family. Born Maynard Merrill Doty, Jr., on November 13th, 1942, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Maynard M. and Ethel L. (Goos) Doty, Sr. He attended school in Marshalltown and then graduated from the Gladbrook High School. Maynard enlisted in the National Guard and was involved with fixing flooding problems along the Mississippi River in the south. On August 13th, 1966, in Marshalltown, he was united in marriage to Marsha Weidler. They have made Marshalltown their home most of their married lives. Mr. Doty was employed as a milk truck driver, Richie Manufacturing, Gethmann Construction as a bricklayer (did brickwork at the old Y on Center St. and Anson School) and since 1968, at Swift and Company. For the past five years, Maynard was business Secretary/Treasurer for the UFCW Local 1149. Maynard was an active member of the Union, a fundraiser for the Relay for Life, enjoyed boating and fishing, NASCAR watching with the grandchildren, upholstering furniture and treasured his family, grandchildren and dogs Max and Maggie. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 40 years, Marsha, his four children: Danny Doty of State Center, Cindy (Ken) Smoldt of State Center, Patty (Danny) Burton of San Antonio, Texas, Charles Doty of Marshalltown, 11 grandchildren, his sisters Marilyn Jungebluth of St. Paul, MN and Trudy Sampson of Charlotte, NC, his dogs Max (the Sheltie) and Maggie and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents and granddaughter, Allison Gruver.
