Melanie Stewart

Melanie Marie Stewart, 55, of Des Moines, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 surrounded by her loving mom and sister. She was under the care of UnityPoint Hospice after a brave battle with cancer. Funeral services for Melanie will take place on Monday, January 11 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Kosbau officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 P.M. and cremation rites will take place following the service. Melanie was born on March 21, 1965 to parents James M. and Helen (Lacina) Stewart in Marshalltown. She attended Marshalltown High School, graduating in 1983. Melanie worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare and also as a telemarketer. Before moving to Des Moines, she attended Grace Church in Marshalltown. Family and friends were very important to Melanie. She loved talking on the phone for hours to her best friend, Melinda, as well as going out to eat.  Melanie also enjoyed shopping and watching T.V., especially Days of Our Lives. She loved collecting angel figurines and angel photos. Left to cherish her memory is her mother, Helen Stewart; her father, James (Kay) Stewart and her siblings: Angela Stewart, Valerie Stewart, Patrick Stewart and Kristin Stewart.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephew whom she loved dearly: Cherise Cox, Anna Stewart, Jacob Roop and Whitney (Mike) Jayne, as well as great-nephew Lawson Jayne and great-niece Lily Jayne. In death, Melanie joins her brother James “Jimmy” Stewart.
