Melissa Gavagan

Melissa “Missy” Ann Gavagan, 57, of Marshalltown, Iowa and born to mother Audrey “Sandy” Bennett on November 9, 1963 passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center surrounded by family after a very hard fight with cancer. Services for Missy will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Care for Missy and her family have been entrusted to Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Missy grew up around the Marshalltown area where she attended Marshalltown High School. She went on to attend classes at Marshalltown Community College where she graduated in 1993. She was united in marriage to Michael “Mike” Gavagan and the two had four children together. The two later divorced in the early 90’s, were re married, and later divorced again. During this time, she worked for Americorps, MICA, Rogers Elementary School, and Tiger Tot’s daycare at Marshalltown Community College. She later went on to work at Steffensen’s for years. Her final job that she worked was at Tom’s Cue and Brew in Marshalltown where she later retired from due to health conditions. She loved every minute that she got to spend with her family, especially her 11 grandchildren and great-granddaughter. While working at Tom’s, Missy met her longtime boyfriend and loving partner, Chad Mcloud. He was the love of her life. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her partner Chad Mcloud; her children, James (Dani) Gavagan, Rochelle (Justin) Hernandez, John Gavagan and Kari (Charlie) Branan; her grandchildren, Rikki, Jordan, Donovan, Zoe, ShyAnne, Javon, Brecken, Layla, LaTalya, J.J., Josh, and baby Gavagan on the way; her great-granddaughter Jaleah Million; her siblings, Sherry (Darrel) Franklin, Janie Neuroth and Kerry Menne; her mother Audrey Snider; mother-in-law, Virginia Mcloud; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; her uncle Michael (Sandy) Fisher; her brother and sister in laws, Clint (Christie) Mcloud, Drew (Terri) Mcloud, Joanna McKinney, Sarah (Tony) Reistroffer and Shaun (Misty) Mcloud. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee and Lois Fisher; her brother, Daniel Rustman; and her aunts, Blanche Draegert, Linda Adams, and Kathy Hessenius.
