Melody “Mel” Brindle, age 66, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s on Monday February 5, 2024, at Arbor Springs, West Des Moines, surrounded by her loving family.
Melody Rae Brindle was born March 10, 1957, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Marvin C. Brindle and Dorothy C. (Katzer) Brindle. Melody grew up in rural Conrad and attended high school at BCLUW community school district, graduating in 1975. She later went on to advance her education at the University of Northern Iowa, where she obtained her bachelor's degree, followed by a master’s degree online from Upper Iowa University. On May 27, 1989, Melody married John Koontz in Cedar Falls, IA. Melody worked for many years at John Deere in the supply management department. In her free time, she enjoyed flower gardening, walking, traveling the world, the company of her cats, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and UNI Panther fan.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, John Koontz of Ankeny, IA; her children: Allison (Eric Adams) Raum of Ankeny, IA, and Jay (Allison) Koontz of Clive, IA; her five grandchildren; Leo Koontz, Hudson Koontz, Hazel Koontz, Eagan Adams, and Ajax Adams; her siblings; Diane (Richard) Everett of Waterloo, IA, Mary (Wayne) Bracy of Conrad, IA, and David (Sharla) Brindle also of Conrad, IA, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Melody is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Dorothy, and her ex-husband, Roger Raum.
The funeral service for Melody will take place on Saturday February 10, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service at 10:00 A.M., also at the funeral home. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear purple in memory of Melody and Alzheimer’s Awareness. She will be laid to rest at Conrad Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
