Melody Lynn Ruggles-Boyd-Baker-Schmidt, 51, of Marshalltown, died Monday, April 23, 2012. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 3:30 p.m. Following services, a picnic will be held at Anson Park. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Melody and her family. Melody was born October 29, 1960, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Vernie Boyd and Sandra (Miller) and Bill Edwards. She was raised and educated in Marshalltown attending the Marshalltown School System. Melody went on to become a CNA and throughout her lifetime she was employed for the Iowa Veterans Home, Villa del Sol and the Marshall County Home. Melody was united in marriage to Dale Baker and they later divorced. Melody was married to David Schmidt Melody was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed socializing and partying with her friends. Most of all Melody loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to her family and she will be greatly missed. Melody is survived by her children: Chad (Stephanie Martelli the mother of his new twins and April Stanley the mother of his four older children) Baker of Nevada, Dale Baker Jr. and Amber Baker both of Marshalltown, her siblings: Billy Edwards Jr., Teresa Edwards and Kim Boyd and Terry Boyd all of Marshalltown, her half-brother Charles Hungate of Centerville and Robert Perdue of Marshalltown, her half-sister: Melinda Boyd of Marshalltown, her stepfather Bill Edwards of Marshalltown, her ex-husband Dale Baker Sr., of Marshalltown, her aunts Marie Cronk and Martha Miller both of Marshalltown, her grandparents: Charles and Anna Lucille Boyd of Marshalltown and her grandchildren: Triston Cullor, Brayden Baker-Flowers, Frankie Alvarez, Madison Nauman, Courtney Stanley, Dallas Stanley, Hayley Baker, Hayden Webb, Jordan Baker, Jozzlynn Baker, Alliana Thompson and Caden Brown. Melody was preceded in death by her mother Sandra (Miller) Edwards, her father Charles Vernie Boyd, her husband David Schmidt and her brother Allen Ray Miller.
