Born on December 5th, 1928, at the family home near Gladbrook, she was the daughter and one of three children born to Walter and Augusta (Landt) Rohweder. She graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1946. On January 18th, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dean Vint in Gladbrook. The young couple made their home at Beaman and then Garwin, farming for the next 38 years. In 1992, they retired and moved to LeGrand. Dean passed away on September 10th, 2010. Melva was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mom who treasured her family. Her grandchildren will carry on the tradition of her famous spaghetti and daughter Becky will carry on the Christmas popcorn cake to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Her faith was strong and unwavering. It was a good day in her life if she could watch the Chicago Cubs, play cards (especially Pepper or King’s Corners), try out a new recipe, tend to the garden or make raisin cream pie or divinity (only a perfect sunny day would do). It was a great day if her family was there to enjoy it with her. Mrs. Vint was also a longtime member of the Garwin United Methodist Church and currently of the LeGrand Friends Church. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mike (Cathy) Vint of Marshalltown, Dan (Tawanna) Vint of Gladbrook, Becky (Gary) Fricke of Melbourne and Jeff (Carlene) Vint of Little Rock, Arkansas; her dear grandchildren- Carrie (Ryan) Hook, Matt (Jessica) Vint, Joel (Sarah) Vint, Jorden (Kristen) Rowles, Adaira Wilson, Breanna (Adam) Staker, Chris (Sara) Fricke, Tim (Megan) Fricke, Eric (Emily) Fricke, Saren (Lucas) Hauser, Kyle Vint and Caitlin Vint, 25 precious great-grandchildren, sister Jan Klar of Dike and many other family and friends. In death, Melva rejoined her beloved Dean, her parents, her brother Roger (Anna Mae) Rohweder, brother-in-law Swede Klar and brother and sisters-in-law on the Vint family side.
